Karibu Tanzania! We hope you have a wonderful stay in one of East Africa’s gems. Home to Mt. Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, and Zanzibar, Tanzania covers an area of 365,756 square miles and is home to approximately 51.82 million people.

Tanzania was formerly known to the world as Tanganyika before it became an independent state (from the United Kingdom) in 1961. The merger of Tanganyika and Zanzibar in 1964 called for a new name thus Tanzania was born.

The current president is John Pombe Magufuli, a former maths and chemistry professor.

While Kiswahili is the official language of Tanzania, the country consists of an estimated 125 ethnic groups, including Chagga, Maasai, and Sukuma. About a third of country practices Islam, another third practice Christianity and the last third practices their own indigenous beliefs. How is it possible that people with such a diverse linguistic, cultural and religious backgrounds can live relatively peacefully among each other? This is one of the most beautiful puzzles of Tanzania and one many people continue to try to answer. What will you discover during your stay here?

The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania. It covers a total area of 50,000 km2 (19,000 sq mi) and has additional buffer zones. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its wildlife diversity and undisturbed nature. Some of the typical wildlife of the miombo inhabits the reserve, such as African bush elephant, black rhino, hippopotamus, lion, East African wild dog, Cape buffaloes, Masai giraffe, Plains zebra, and Nile crocodile. Permanent human habitation is not permitted within the reserve. All human entry and exit is controlled by the Wildlife Division of the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.

The reserve was named after Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died at Beho Beho in this territory in 1917 while fighting against the Germans during World War I. We hope you had good rest after long driving, enjoy your relaxing breakfast at the lodge.

You will be transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Ruaha.

Ruaha National Park

Located at the heart of Tanzania, Ruaha is the 'other park' on the Southern circuit. Ruaha's relative inaccessibility means it gets far fewer tourists than the Selous and less than any comparable park in the Northern circuit. The rewards of traveling this far are a wild landscape with baobab studded hills and rocky escarpments, with superb wildlife; Ruaha safaris have reliably exciting predator concentrations, huge elephant and buffalo herds, and a cross over of game from southern and Eastern Africa.

Tanzania's largest National Park, Ruaha is a wilder and more remote park than its southern neighbor Selous Game Reserve, and ultimately has the better wildlife, albeit without boating safaris. We love this park! Safaris here are some of the best you will find in the country and are superb value for money. It is a wild and authentic environment that remains relatively untouched.

One of Tanzania's best-kept (and more affordable) secrets, Ruaha is a particularly good complement and contrast to the Selous, although it would be a great addition to any Tanzania safari. The lion viewing around the Mwagusi area is especially rewarding and general predator concentrations across the park are better than many of the other parks in the country. Overall an absolutely excellent safari destination
